What are Weather Fronts?

A weather front could be an air mass in a large body of air that has similar temperature and moisture properties throughout. The best source regions for air masses are large flat areas where air can be stagnant long enough to take on the characteristics of the surface below.

Warm fronts could be....

T
he changeover region where a warm air mass is replacing a cold air mass.
Warm fronts usually move from southwest to northeast and the air behind a warm front is warmer and moistier than the air ahead of it. When a warm front passes, the air becomes noticeably warmer and more humid than it was before.

What is a cold front?

A cold front is defined as the leading edge of a cooler and mass of an air which replaces it (at ground level) a warmer mass of air.
